The St. Augustine Trilogy: Book I

A review placed on her blog, Goodreads and Amazon by Samantha Atkin, better known as Sam.

“This book in my opinion was very ‘Original’. I haven’t read anything like it before (though I’m sure there are books out there like it). It contains elements of the Paranormal, Mystery and History.

“OK, I am going to put my hands up and say I’m not a fan of History but after reading this book the message is clear. History is all around us, it happened, it’s still happening and it’s a big part of our lives.

“After the first few chapter’s, the book start’s to warm up. You are right there with Jeff to the end. Doug’s writing style is superb! The way he wrote the battle scene, “WOW!” You really can see it happening all around you.

“The book is written in Jeff’s POV, a 15 year old troubled teen who has recently moved to St, Augustine. He makes friends with Carla who he seems to like, as their experiences through the book bring them closer together I can see a relationship brewing (well I hope so anyways).

“Jeff hasn’t been getting much sleep for the past 3 nights, he’s been having nightmares. He tells Carla about them and she takes him to meet her next door neighbour Lobo. Now let me tell you Lobo is a my way or the highway type of man and at first Jeff has trouble listening to Lobo. Well, wouldn’t you after being told a ghost is trying to get your attention? I do feel sorry for Jeff as he is being haunted, seeing things that aren’t normal and just downright scary! Though Lobo and Carla have their own withheld secrets too. Jeff is just starting to learn how to sort of control his mind, when he and Carla have to confront his past! There is a battle to be won and Jeff and Carla must make it out alive.

“Sliding Beneath the Surface leaves you with wanting more, Jeff learns a few things about himself and I’m guessing we will hear more about that in Book 2, Stepping Off a Cliff in The St. Augustine Trilogy.
