Book I

Young Adult, Paranormal & Historical

A review placed on Amazon by Teacheramy

The book, “Sliding Beneath the Surface” is on the surface, a book about the paranormal and the history of a battle fought in St. Augustine, Florida. However, one of the main themes of the book is human growth.

The main character, Jeff Golden, is a typical, angry teen boy that uses his defenses to keep people at a distance and ignore his feelings.

When he begins to have horrible nightmares, he must turn to the one person he is vulnerable with, Carla Rodriguez. She takes him to see a Native American spiritual healer that puts into play a series of events that will eventually lead Jeff into a long ago fought battle with his great, great, great, great, great grandfather!

Throughout the book, Jeff comes to a greater understanding of himself and the world around him. I truly enjoyed reading this book and found it to be an easy, but intriguing read.

As an eighth grade teacher for over 15 years, I feel that teenagers from all backgrounds would identify with the main characters and be held captive by the adventures of Jeff and Carla.

I am passing the book on to my 76-year old mother, who I think will enjoy the read, as well!
