In one my of my previous blogs, I touched on how my wife Barb and I went public back in the day with our real life paranormal experiences. Believe me, when we wrote An Explosion of Being, we didn’t truly think that “going public” meant much more than publishing the book. Wrong.
Very quickly we found out it was much more than that. If you haven’t already seen it on my website, this is a picture of Barb and me at the time the book first appeared. We also put the same photo on the back of the new Explosion book.
Our publisher worked out some cooperative advertising with various bookstores, so we did the usual book signings. On top of that, we made guest appearances on local Orlando area radio and TV programs. Quite a shift from my life as a schoolteacher and Barb’s as a stay at home mom at the time.
After those initial appearances, we approached radio stations from a list provided by our publisher. Within a short time, we were doing radio shows via telephone from our home all over the United States and even in Canada. Some of those programs were simple interviews, but other were hour-long call-in shows where we got to talk to listeners and answer their questions.
The vast majority of those calls were very positive and showed what a great thirst many people had to understand the paranormal activity in their own lives. Many of them thanked us for speaking with them because they weren’t able to talk about the paranormal with family members or friends.
An Explosion of Being went out of print eventually, but during the time it was available, Barb and I had great fun meeting and talking with so many people. From what some of them said, our book made a difference in their lives. And for that, we are continually grateful. Now with Explosion again in print again, we hope it may still have the power to touch others in a positive way. Even if it’s only one person, it will have been worth the effort.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you are doing well.
If you had asked me when I was a much younger man if I believed in the paranormal, I would have said “No” but we most likely would have had a nice conversation about it. The supernatural, ghosts, ESP, channeling and all that was always fun to talk about but not something I saw as truly real. And to be completely honest, I viewed people who strongly believed in such things as a bit odd, gullible, or just plain deluded.
As life usually does though, it smacked me upside the head when my dad died and showed me how wrong I was. Losing my father not only shook me to the core, but some surprising events surrounding his death lead my wife Barb and me into investigating the paranormal.
The result of our investigation? Well, we both became believers in the infinite possibilities beyond what we had previously considered as the normal everyday physical aspects of our lives. Our experiences in this area multiplied so much that we began to see paranormal activity as normal. Quite a switch for both of us but such an important change that we wrote the nonfiction book for adults titled, An Explosion of Being: An American Family’s Journey into the Psychic. Written a number of years ago, it openly and honestly tells about our explorations into the world of the paranormal.
In the process of publishing Book I of The St. Augustine Trilogy, Barb and I agreed to resurrect An Explosion of Being with a New Edition at the same time. We thought trilogy readers might find my background in real life paranormal experiences of interest.
Actually, the cover you see here is new but somewhat similar to the original one done by Parker Publishing, an imprint Prentice Hall. Because we liked that initial cover, I asked cover designer Michael Lynch to come up with something close. Did he ever! Very nice job Michael. Much better than the original. He also did the exceptional designing for the trilogy book covers.
More on the real life aspects of the paranormal later.
Take care.
