Paranormal Experiences: Out-of-Body

Some  members of my family have had very clear out-of-body experiences over the years. Me? There have been a lot of times I felt I was floating but that’s about it. Well, except for one particular night. I hesitate to mention it because what happened was so quick and very strange. Then again, the oddity of it eventually told me that I wasn’t asleep.

On the night in question, I slowly awoke out of a whole bunch of dreams. What they were, I have no idea and probably didn’t even recall them at the time. It was one of those times when you are barely awake but your head is full of indistinct activity that seemed to have been happening just seconds before.

When I finally open my eyes a bit, I felt a little disoriented so I figured part of my brain must still be in the dreaming state. The darkness around me seemed very different somehow but I just couldn’t seem to pull my consciousness together enough in order to make sense of my environment. I was lying on my back, that much I knew, and nothing more.  Looking straight above me showed me rough, pebbly shapes surrounding some sort of rectangular object.

In the gloom, I stared at the rectangular object for the longest time trying to figure it out. Slowly, it dawned on me that I was looking at an air conditioning vent set into the ceiling–all that pebbly stuff .

The more I stared, the clearer the vent became. In fact, I was able to actually look inside the thing and inspect it in infinite detail.

This all seemed vaguely interesting until it hit me that the only way I could be seeing the inside of the vent would be if I was lying parallel to the ceiling with my face only inches from it– and using a flashlight. Impossible, I finally realized with a start. The vent is 8 feet high and 6 feet from the bed. Wide-eyed, I stared at the close-up scene directly in front of my eyes for a few more seconds before I suddenly found myself in bed, lying on my back.

Barb was sleeping soundly and the room was mostly dark as it should be. Turning my head to the left, I looked for the vent and found it just barely visible way up there where on the ceiling where I knew without a doubt I had just been.
