St. Augustine, FL: Old Weapons

When visiting the Castillo de San Marcos, the old Spanish fort in St. Augustine, try to make it on a Friday, Saturday or a Sunday. That’s when National Monument staff members and local volunteers in 18th century Spanish uniforms fire cannons for the public. It’s a great spectacle and very realistic. The times are as follows:

Mornings: 10:30 and 11:30

Afternoons: 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30

Check out my previous post which is a photo gallery of this event and/or click here for a video showing it from start to finish.

In order for these reenactors to fire any of the cannons, they actually have to go to cannon school.

For your enjoyment, St. Augustine also has its very own Museum of Weapons.
